About Approva
Approva builds prior authorization infrastructure for ambulatory surgery centers. We were founded to fix the operational bottleneck that delays scheduled cases, strains clinical staff, and puts ASC revenue at risk.
Our mission
Prior authorization was designed for hospitals, not ambulatory surgery centers. ASCs handle high volumes of elective orthopedic, spine, and pain cases — each requiring its own payer-specific documentation — but most authorization tools offer no specialization for that workflow. Approva was built from the ground up to match how ASCs actually operate.
We combine AI-assembled clinical packets with certified human reviewers who understand payer-specific requirements. Every submission goes out complete and on-protocol. Denials get captured and appealed. Peer-to-peer reviews get coordinated and tracked. The goal is a single system that covers the full authorization lifecycle, so ASC staff spend time on patients — not paperwork.
How it works
When a case is scheduled, Approva pulls chart data, matches it to the payer's clinical criteria, and assembles the authorization packet automatically. A certified reviewer audits every packet before submission, catching gaps that trigger denials. The system tracks payer decisions in real time, flags stalled authorizations, and routes denials to the appropriate appeal workflow — whether that means a written appeal or a peer-to-peer review with the surgeon.
Payer rules and coverage policies are maintained continuously in Approva's protocol library. When a payer updates its criteria, the system reflects it before the next submission — not after the next denial.
